Egypt, France Foreign Ministers discuss ties, regional developments

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian the recent regional developments and means of promoting bilateral ties, the country's foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

In a phone conversation, the talks tackled the Libyan crisis and means of reaching a political comprehensive settlement that will help restore the country’s stability, security and uproot terrorism, said Ahmed Hafez, spokesperson of the foreign ministry.

The two diplomats warned against foreign intervention in the war-torn country that threatens the stability of the neighboring countries.

They also exchanged views about the Palestinian cause and resuming peace negotiations based on the two-state solution.

Hafez added that the two sides also touched upon the dispute over the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Egypt recently said it is willing to resume negotiations with Sudan and Ethiopia over the filling of the GERD.

The negotiations between the three countries reached a deadlock in February after Ethiopia withdrew from the final round of talks in Washington.
