At least 16 dead in northern Mexico after major road accident

At least 16 people were killed on Thursday morning in a road accident between a passenger bus and two tractor trailers near km 39 of the Sonoyta-San Luis Rio Colorado highway in the northern Mexican state of Sonora, the Attorney General's Office of Sonora said.

In addition, at least 22 people were injured, with six in serious condition, the office said in a Twitter message.

According to National Guard reports, the accident occurred at about 5:00 a.m. local time.
