China’s manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in May stood at 51.2, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.

The figure, which remained at the same level as April's PMI, is the eighth month in a row with a reading above 50, official data showed. It indicates that the country’s manufacturing activity has continued to expand for an eighth consecutive month.

A reading above 50 indicates expansion, while a reading below 50 reflects contraction.
