With a spectacular fireworks performance in the forthcoming New Year celebration, the Gulf Arab emirate Dubai aims to break Kuwait's record in fireworks displaying and get its place in the Guinness Book of World Records, Dubai daily Gulf News reported on Wednesday.

The pyrotechnical display will take place over the man-made World Islands and The Palm island Jumeirah at Dubai's offshore. It will attempt to break the previous record set by the emirate of Kuwait when the Northern Gulf state marked the 50th anniversary of its constitution in November 2012, said the report.

The display in Kuwait a year ago used 77,282 fireworks and stretched over five kilometers lasting one hour and four minutes.

The Gulf state United Arab Emirates holds 131 world records, and most of them were set in the emirate of Dubai. The last entry of the sheikhdom into the Guinness Book happened in November 2012 when American hotel chain Marriott opened the J. W. Marriott Marquis hotel which is 355 meters in height, the tallest hotel in the world.
