Getting your hands onhigh-end bags from top-tier luxury brands has never been easier in China.
People
who want to rent luxury handbags like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel and
Dior, can now do it through WeChat through Dou Baobao's account, a
Beijing-based startup company.
Depending on the
type of bag, users can pay anything from 99 yuan (15 US dollars) to
1,878 yuan (276 US dollars). The company, Dou Baobao, also charges
users an additional 30-50 percent of the market price of the bags as a
deposit.
Dou Baobao founder Cheng Kaiwen discussed his business
model with Securities Daily in June, saying it offers "economic and
environmental" benefits, and such services could help Chinese users
distinguish between fake and real goods in an increasingly saturated
market.
Shareable luxury services are the latest
addition to China’s booming sharing economy after sharing taxis, bikes,
umbrellas and many other products.
