Serbian footballing powerhouse Red Star Belgrade's CEO Zvezdan Terzic said Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 after five club players contracted the virus earlier this week. "On Saturday before the title celebration, I got tested, and I was negative. However, the last two days, I had a fever, and yesterday I got tested again, which showed that I was positive," Terzic said in a statement.

After the country's health administration lifted most of the lockdown measures in May, the Serbian football champions played matches with thousands of spectators, which includes their title-winning match and a semifinal League Cup match against rival Partizan.

Serbia is currently experiencing a surge of new coronavirus cases as their tennis superstar Novak Djokovic and three other players have been confirmed infected with the virus, after playing an exhibition tournament in Belgrade and the Croatian Adriatic resort of Zadar.
