Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva on Monday met with his visiting Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff here to discuss measures to promote bilateral relations, in particular economic cooperation.
During the talks, Cavaco Silva praised Brazil's political and economic achievements in recent years, and promised that Portugal will push forward negotiations on the free trade agreement between Mercosur, or the Common Market of the South, and the European Commission.
The Portuguese president also said that he hopes for more Brazilian companies to come to invest in Portugal, and further cooperation in such fields as economy, trade, science and technology as well as education between the two countries.
For her part, Rousseff said that Brazil is concerned with the current economic crisis Portugal and the entire Europe are facing, and its effects on the remaining parts of the world.

Brazil hopes for further expansion of cooperation in science and technology, culture and education between the two countries, she said.
Rousseff arrived in Lisbon on Saturday for a two-day official visit to Portugal. During her visit, the two sides signed a cooperation agreement on science and technology in a view to promoting the exchange and cooperation of the high-level talents between the two countries. Under the agreement, the two countries recognize each other's graduates with diploma and quality of the construction engineering and design major.
Rousseff also met with Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho and opposition Socialist Party Secretary-General Atonio Seguro.
