Chinese Premier Li Keqiang on Tuesday urged six major provinces to "take the lead" in stabilizing the national economy, China Media Group (CMG) reported.

Despite "an unexpected shock" in the second quarter, China's economy stabilized and rebounded in June, said Li during a video meeting with senior officials from the six provinces with large economies, CMG reported.

The economy's recovery trend continued in July, but slight fluctuations remain, Li said.

The provinces were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan and Sichuan, and the economies of the six altogether accounted for more than 40 percent of the country's overall economy, he said.

Li called for "a greater sense of urgency" and consolidating the foundation of economic recovery.

The six provinces should find ways to boost consumption, work towards revitalizing financial markets and tighten government spending, Li was quoted as saying.
