Africa's COVID-19 death toll hits 1,303, as confirmed cases rise to 27,852

The death toll from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on the African continent reached 1,303 as the number of confirmed cases hit 27,852 as of Friday, the Africa Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, a specialized agency of the 55-member African Union (AU) Commission, in its latest situation update issued on Friday revealed that the number of confirmed positive cases across the continent rose from 25,937 on Thursday to 27,852 as of Friday afternoon.

The virus has so far spread into 52 African countries, according to the Africa CDC.

Figures from the Africa CDC showed that amid the rapid spread of the virus across the continent, the highly COVID-19 affected African countries include Egypt, South Africa, Morocco as well as Algeria.

The continental disease control and prevention agency also disclosed that some 7,633 people who were infected with COVID-19 across the continent had recovered from the virus as of the stated period.
