13 injured in S. German factory explosion

A factory belonging to the automotive supplier Schaeffler in southern German city of Eltmann exploded on Monday, leaving 13 people injured, local police tweeted.

Among those injured, four people sustained serious injuries and have been sent to hospital for treatment.

The explosion was reported at around 10:15 a.m. local time (0815 GMT), said the police, adding that it could be related to a cleaning plant for industrial salts which caught fire.

The police confirmed that no leakage of hazardous substances or the like occurred in the explosion and therefore it would not cause any harm to the surrounding inhabitants.

Local police have started investigation into the explosion.
