Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced here on Saturday that the U.S. navy in the Persian Gulf has made a "provocative move" in an encounter with IRGC forces.

"At 04:00 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) on Friday, the Supercarrier USS Nimitz and the accompanying warship approached the IRGC vessels and flew a helicopter in Resalat oil-gas field," IRGC statement said.

While they were being monitored by the IRGC forces, the U.S. fleet also flew flares in a warning gesture, the statement said, adding that the IRGC navy group, heedless of the U.S. navy's provocative move, continued its mission and the U.S. navy group left the area.

On Tuesday, the IRGC said that the U.S. Navy ship has made warning shots at an Iranian patrolling boat in the Persian Gulf.
