Germany called for a democratic solution to the crisis in Ukraine and transparent elections at the end of the transition process in the country, German government's spokesman Steffen Seibert said in a statement Monday.

Seibert said it was a "positive development that the situation in Ukraine remained largely peaceful after the terrible bloodshed," suggesting it to hold transparent, democratic elections.

Seibert confirmed that Chancellor Angela Merkel has invited Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukrainian opposition leader, to take medical treatment in Germany.

Seibert said the recovery of political stability is now priority for Ukraine, but the door for an association agreement with the European Union is still open to the country.
