The Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Thursday recalled the ambassador to Turkey for consultations, official news agency MENA reported.

"Ambassador Abdel-Rahman Salah has been recalled for consultations," said Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy.

Ankara has also recalled its ambassador in Cairo after Turkey strongly condemned the "aggression" by the Egyptian security forces against supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also urged the UN Security Council to convene quickly on Egyptian situation.

On July 30, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry summoned Turkey's Ambassador in Cairo Hussein Awni over Turkish officials' remarks on Egypt's situation, according to MENA.
