Thai former Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) Suthep Thaugsuban on Monday was indicted by the Criminal Court over charges of murder and attempted murders.
The anti-government protest leader was charged for allegedly ordering the military crackdown on red-shirt protesters in 2010, causing 98 deaths and hundreds of injuries, reported Bangkok Post.
Suthep was escorted by soldiers to report to the prosecution to hear the charges after being released on Monday morning by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO). He, however, denied the charges.
The first hearing court is expected to be held on July 28.
Suthep was released on bail after his lawyer submitted a bank deposit passbook of 600,000 Thai baht as surety. Suthep is required to report to the court for the first hearing.
In another situation, Suthep and 24 other leading members of the PDRC reported to the Office of the Attorney General Monday morning over insurrection charges in relation to the half-a-year anti-government protest.
They were released on bail, and the Office is expected to gather evidence and decide whether to proceed on the charges.
