Despite a drop in the number of domestic guests staying in Austrian hotels, strong foreign visitor numbers have led to a 0.7 percent increase in the number of overnight stays for the month of November 2014.
Statistics Austria revealed in its latest figures Wednesday the total overnight stays for the month were 4.28 million, the foreign visitor component of which increased 2.5 percent to a total of 2. 29 million hotel stays.
The number of overnight stays from Austrian guests however dropped 1.4 percent to 1.99 million. The total number of guests meanwhile increased 3.1 percent to 1.75 million.
While the month of November marks the opening of the winter season, it typically only accounts for about 6 percent of hotel stays for the entire season, with the months of January and February most important sharing almost 50 percent of winter overnight stays.
