Syrian government forces announced on Saturday that they had taken full control of the major town in Homs province held by ISIL.

A number of ISIL militants have been killed, and their weapons at the town of Al-Sukhneh have been destroyed, said the forces.

The Al-Sukhneh’s capture would help the Syrian government troops to break the ISIL siege to the Deir al-Zor province near Iraq, as the town is located on the road between the ancient city of Palmyra and Deir al-Zour.
