At least 30 civilians were killed and 40 injured in a US drone strike in an eastern province, Nangarhar of Afghanistan on Wednesday. The strike was targeting an Islamic State (IS) hideout, however many labourers who were in the mountains to collect pine nuts died.
The labourers had lit a fire and were resting after collecting pine nuts when the drone hit them.
The spokesperson for U.S. forces in Afghanistan along with Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry accepted that there was a drone strike, however both did no provide any more details.
Currently there are about 14,000 US troops in Afghanistan, who are helping in training of Afghan security forces.
According to reports, the US forces are also adopting countermeasures and counter-insurgency operations against IS and the Taliban.
About 150 workers were taking rest after collecting pine nuts when the strike took place.
