Afteraday-longdryspellonThursday,someareasinandaroundthecityincludingKodambakkam,TNagarandTambaramreceivedshowersinthenightbutFridaymorningsawsomebrightskieswithpeopleoutonthestreets.

ThebreakinrainresultedinasharpfallinthedischargeofwatersfromChembarapakkam,PondiandPuzhallakesleadingtoreductioninthewaterlevelsofthetworiversthatcriss-crossthecity.

LimitedcommercialflightoperationshavestartedthismorningfromtheRajalinavalairstationinArakkonamnearChennai.

TrainservicesonthesuburbanChennaiArakonnamstretchwerepartiallyrestored.SouthernRailwayofficialssaidtheywereyettotakeacallonrestorationofservicesontheotherbusyTambaram-Chennaibeachroutewhichcoversbothbusinessandresidentialareas.

TheChennaiMetrolinecontinuedtowitnessenhancedpatronageinthewakeofsuspensionofbusandrailtransport.

Withafocusonintensifyingreliefandrescueoperationstoprovideaidtorain-hitpeopleofChennaiandadjoiningareas,theNDRFhasbolstereditsstrengthbyaddingtenmoreteamsforthejobandhasrescued9,000peopletillnow.

Directorgeneraloftheforce,OPSingh,saidhisteamsareexpectedtorescueandreachouttomorenumberofpeopletodayaswaterhasrecededinsomeplaces.

"Wehaverescuedabout9,000peopletillnow.TenmoreteamsfromPuneandPatnahavebeenmobilisedtoTamilNadu.Weexpecttohavebetterresultstodayasthingshaveimprovedandcommunicationisenhanced,"hesaid.

FiveteamsarrivedearlyonFridaymorningforthetaskatChennai,anofficialNDRFspokespersonsaid.

Theforcealreadyhas30teams,with40personnelineach,workingintheareasoftheTamilNaducapitalandadjoiningPuducherry.

TheNDRFhasalsopressedinabout110inflatableandotherkindsofboatsandnumeroussetsofbuoysandlifejacketswiththerescueandreliefteamssothattheneedyandthemaroonedgethelp.
