Report: More than 500 million Chinese access news on mobile devices

More than 500 million Chinese read news on their mobile devices, accounting for more than 70% of all Internet users, said a report on the country's journalism sector on Wednesday.

The report, by the All-China Journalists Association, said that social networks and news apps have become an increasingly important channel for information flow.

China's media industry was worth 1.3 trillion yuan (186 billion US dollars) in 2015, up 12.3% from 2014.

In 2014, the Internet made up 47.2% of the media industry, a figure that increased to 51.8% in 2015.

The report also said that technological development has become a powerful impetus for media reform, citing the use of big data, cloud computing, news-writing robots and virtual reality technologies.
