Tesla in talks with government on building car factory in Shanghai, offi

Tesla, the electric-vehicle maker based in the US, is in talks with Shanghai authorities over a plan to build a factory in the metropolis, Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Gao Feng said at a regular press conference on Thursday.

Gao made the remark when asked whether Tesla could independently set the factory in China instead of partnering with a Chinese business.

China welcomes foreign investment, especially in sectors of high technology and environmental protection as well as emerging sectors of strategic importance, the spokesperson said.
