APD | Samsung outpaces Apple in mobile AP market

South Korea’s largest electronics maker Samsung Electronics Co. surpassed its US rival Apple Inc. to take the third place in the global mobile application processor (AP) market in 2019, according to data from industry tracker Counterpoint Research.

Samsung, the maker of the Exynos chipsets, has a 14.1% mobile AP market share last year, an increase of 2.2 percentage points compared to 2018. Counterpoint Research said Samsung's market share has expanded thanks to steady growth in North America and India.

Apple ranked fourth after its market share dropped by 0.5 percentage point to 13.1% in 2019.

Qualcomm and MediaTek still maintained their leading positions in the mobile AP market, accounting for 33.4% and 24.6%, respectively.

Of the top five AP manufacturers, only Samsung and Huawei of China posted on-year growth in their market presence.
