22-year-old Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez of Serie A's Inter Milan has been one of the most popular targets on the transfer market. According to Metro, Chelsea and Manchester City of Premier League have joined the competition to land Martinez and their offers are quite attractive.

Inter set a release clause of 111 million euros (about 120 million U.S. dollars) in their contract with Martinez. It will take effect in the first two weeks of July and can only be activated by non-Italian clubs.

Chelsea are willing to pay that price and they are ready to offer an annual salary of over 8.7 million pounds (about 10.7 million U.S. dollars) to the Argentine striker. So are Man City.

Barcelona of La Liga will not be happy to hear this since their top office have been negotiating with Inter's for a long time over the transfer of Martinez.

Unlike the two English clubs, Barcelona do not want to and cannot pay in cash to rope in Martinez. Their advantage is that Martinez wants to play along Lionel Messi and the team can attend the UEFA Champions League next season.

Inter are reportedly willing to compromise a little on the price: They can do with no less than 90 million euros (about 97.2 million U.S. dollars) plus a player. Nonetheless, that does not make it much easier for Barcelona.

First, 90 million euros is still a lot of money. Second, the players Barcelona are willing to let go – Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti – are not appealing enough to Inter. And the players that reportedly interest the Nerazzurri – Arthur Melo for example – are too important to let go.

Inter paid 25 million euros (about 27 million U.S. dollars) to land Martinez from Racing Club in 2018. Whoever they will send the Argentine striker to, the Italian club will definitely make a fortune.
