Roger Federer has moved to within one win of a record-extending 20th Grand Slam singles title after earning his spot in the Australian Open final after Chung Hyeon retired from their semi-final.

Defending champion Federer’s forehand into the open court wraps up the frame 6-1.

After dropping the fifth game on the second set, Chung needed to see the trainer to get a blister on his left foot treated. Despite the pain, South Korea's first ever grand slam semi-finalist presses on.

The bandage seemed to help his mobility, as the Suwon native's forehand found the inside of the line, and Chung cut the deficit to 4-2 as his family looks on.

But the pain worsens with the world number 58 on serve in the eighth game. When his backhand is called long, it looks like Chung is going to challenge as he walks over to the chief umpire, but announced that he was withdrawing due to injury, the blister making it impossible to continue.

That took the crowd by surprise, but the defending champion moved on to the title match following the abbreviated victory. The world number two will be seeking his 20th grand slam trophy when he faces 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic in Sunday's final.
