Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched a new online platform to seek governance ideas from citizens, especially the youth, in a bid to bridge the gap between the public and the government, local media reported Sunday.

"In the past, there used to be a big gap between the people and the processes of governance... in the past sixty days, the experience of our government is that there are many people who want to contribute towards nation-building, and devote their time and energy," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying.

Citizens can register on the snazzily designed new government portal and discuss key challenges facing the country as well as volunteer to work on specific projects that are selected from the ideas that come up on the platform, The Economic Times newspaper reported.

The Modi government on Saturday completed two months in office.
