An elderly couple from Shenzhen, south China’s Guangdong Province recently lunged at the opportunity to take wedding photos - something they didn't get to do when they wed 45 years ago. Unfortunately, the romantic photoshoot didn't turn out as planned.

In early February, 76-year-old Zhuge and his wife Hu went on a cruise during which they were offered an on-board photography session by Guangzhou Honeymoon Journey Shoot Photography Company. Taking it as a chance to make up for the regret of not having wedding photos from when they tied the knot, the couple said yes.

It was agreed that the first ten photos would be free but every picture after that would cost 120 yuan (about 17 US dollars) each. In total, the couple spent 3,480 yuan on the photos they selected.

The first sign that something was amiss was a delay. The photo album was supposed to be sent to Zhuge and Hu after a month. But it took weeks of complaining by the elderly couple and other tourists to finally receive the photos three months later.

Upon receiving the photos, there was more disappointment. In some photos, the couple's bodies appeared distorted and the photo retouching process sloppy.

“My wife said she looked fat. He (staff member) promised they would fix it,” Zhuge told Southern Metropolis Daily with anger. “I even want to burn the photos.”

However, the photography company doesn't seem to think it did anything wrong. Zeng, an employee, defended what happened. He told Hongxing News on Thursday that elderly people shouldn’t expect to look like 20-year-olds as “they were unable to do many poses.” But he added, “We’ll photoshop the images to meet their demands. If after that they’re still unhappy, we’ll consider a refund.”

Seeing the photos, tens of thousands of netizens gave their two cents.

“Aren’t these just normal photos? I can do a better job just with a filter,” wrote Weibo user @hunchongshuaige.

“I used to work for such companies. Just cheating. Definitely not worth the money! To those who shoot wedding photos, don’t be fooled.” Weibo user @yuding_X commented.
