Icelandic President approves appointment of new PM

Iceland's President Olafur Ragnar Grimsson approved Sigurdur Ingi Johannsson as Prime Minister on Thursday after the government's previous leader was forced to resign, the Prime Minister's office said in a statement published on its website.

Grimsson had endorsed the resignation of outgoing Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson.

Grimsson also approved some changes in the cabinet. Former foreign minister Gunnar Bragi Sveinsson will take over Johannsson' s previous post as the minister of fisheries and agriculture. And a new cabinet member, Lilja Dogg Alfredsdottir, will serve as foreign affairs minister. Enditem
