At least 136 people were killed from flooding and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains in India's western Maharashtra State as rescuers are still searching for dozens more missing, local media reported.

The country's western coast has been inundated by torrential rains since Thursday, with the India Meteorological Department warning of further downpours over the next few days.

The states of Goa and Maharashtra are among the worst affected. In Goa, hundreds of homes have been damaged during the natural disaster.
