Nazarbayev's daughter leaves Kazakhstan's senate speaker post

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has "terminated the powers" of Nazarbayeva in a decree, Tokayev's office said in a brief statement, without providing details.

In a Twitter post, Tokayev thanked her for "active and fruitful work" as senate speaker.

Under the Kazakh constitution, the senate speaker is first in line to take the presidency in the event of the incumbent's resignation or death.Nazarbayeva had been appointed a senate deputy by Tokayev, who also nominated her for the speaker post.

He also holds the title of Yelbasy, or National Leader.Tokayev, then interim president, won the central Asian country's presidential election with 70.96 percent of the vote in June last year.
