U.S. COVID-19 infections top 9.5 million

The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in the United States surpassed the 9.5 million mark on Thursday, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University.

The country, which is the hardest-hit globally by the pandemic, on Wednesday made news for recording more than 100,000 new cases, a record one day increase.

According to the latest figures by the Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. had reported 9,516,790 infections and 234,011 deaths by Thursday morning.

The country accounts for 19.69 percent of the world's COVID-19 infections and 19.05 percent of its fatalities.
