Pakistan whitewashes Sri Lanka in T20 cricket series

ISLAMABAD, Oct. 30 (APD) -- Pakistan cricket team whitewashed Sri Lankan in three-match Twenty20 International series by winning the last match by 36 runs on Sunday night the country’s eastern city of Lahore.

Pakistan went for the final and last match of the series with a decisive lead of 2-0 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Sri Lankan captain won the toss and opted to field first against Pakistan.

From Pakistan side, right-hand batsman Shoaib Malik was the top scorer with 51 runs while Umar Amin (45) and Babar Azam (34 not out) were the other contributors to help the team to set a total of 180 runs.

Sri Lanka, in chase of the target, lost early wickets and managed to score only 144 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Sri Lankans were off to a shaky start as they lost 3 wickets in 4 overs with just 22 runs on the board.

Pakistani fans were very happy as they reached the stadium to watch the first international cricket match featuring a major team on Pakistan soil since the 2009 terror attack.

Sri Lankan team received a warm welcome on their arrival in Pakistan.

On his arrival, Sri Lankan Captain Thushara Perera expressed joy upon his arrival in Pakistan and said that his team would try and give their best on the field today.

It’s nice to be in Pakistan again. We are thankful for a warm welcome and will do our best to entertain the crowd with some good cricket”, said the Sri Lankan skipper.

Pakistan has successfully hosted a number international sports events at home after the country successfully wiped out the terrorism through military operations across the country.
