Donald Trump’s new comms director deletes his mean tweets about Trump

Prominent Republican political figures and lawmakers may be stuck with Donald Trump, but at least they have the freedom to deal with him as they see fit. Paul Ryan has publicly rebuked the presumptive G.O.P. nominee and dozens of other party luminaries may not speak at his convention. Party underlings and career consultants, however, don’t have that same luxury. They know which side of their bread is buttered, and Trump is the only game in town.

Case in point: on Monday, the Trump campaign hired Jason Miller, formerly a top aide to Ted Cruz, to be the campaign’s communications director. Miller, a veteran strategist with more than two decades of experience running G.O.P. ad campaigns, was with Cruz until the bitter end, through thick and thin—not to mention Trump’s assault on “Lyin’ Ted” and his wife’s looks.

At the time of Trump’s attacks, Miller responded with a series of tweets slamming “#SleazyDonald” for going after Heidi Cruz. Those tweets, however, were apparently deleted around the time he signed on with the Donald. But nothing on the Internet is ever truly lost. ThinkProgress reached into the Twitter memory hole to recover some of Miller’s tweets, which should provide a delectable pairing with any and all of his forthcoming press statements on Trump’s behalf.

“Donald Trump is the Carl Lewis of flip-flopping,” he wrote in response to a story about Trump’s sudden switch on abortion. “I have literally never seen anyone move with such speed.”

“So which lobbyist wrote Donald Trump’s foreign policy speech today, and what foreign companies have they done work for?” he once asked.

Upon learning that Trump’s private jet was not registered to fly with the Federal Aviation Administration, Miller quipped: “It’s the Trump University of the skies!”

On the bright side of things, now Miller can tell him not to take three different positions on abortion within three hours (“Triple crown performance by The Don today!”).

Miller is not the first Republican to hastily delete his anti-Trump tweets: upon being named the Republican National Committee’s Hispanic outreach director, Helen Aguirre Ferré deleted her critical tweets as well. (She replaced Ruth Guerra, who left in protest of Trump.)
