APD | Army plane crash at residential area kills 19 in Pakistan's Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD, July 30 (APD) – At least 19 people were killed and nine others sustained severe injuries after a trainer plane of Pakistani army crashed at a residential area on early Tuesday morning in the country’s eastern Rawalpindi district,

Spokesperson of the eastern Punjab province Shahbaz Gill said in a statement that so far 19 bodies and nine injured have been shifted to different hospitals in the city.

Earlier Pakistan army's media wing the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the trainer plane of Pakistan Army Aviation was on its routine training mission when it crashed at a residential area on the outskirts of Rawalpindi city.

All five people of Pakistan army, including two pilots, lost their lives in the accident in the Jabbi village of the district, said the ISPR, adding that other deceased were the resident of the house destroyed in the crash.

Eyewitnesses told media that the plane crashed on a two-story house and destroyed it.

Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the bodies and injured to hospitals.

An emergency official said that the death toll might further rise as the majority of the injured are in critical condition due to severe burn injuries.

The army’s media wing has not disclosed the make of the aircraft. However, a source told APD that it was the U.S. made Beechcraft Super King Air 350.

Investigation teams are present at the site to collect evidence to judge the cause of the crash.
