At least six people died after a boat capsized in a river in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, police said Saturday.

"The incident took place this morning when the boat in which the victims, which included two children, were travelling sank in Saryu river at Behta in Uttar Pradesh," a police official said.

The bodies of all those who drowned have been fished out by divers, the official said, adding that they will be handed over to the victims' families.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said.

The incident came barely three weeks after 22 people drowned when an overloaded boat sank in the Yamuna River in the state's Baghpat district. The boat was carrying 60 people.
