Hainan to host 2014 global tourism summit

The 2014 World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit will help draw global attention to China's tropical island of Hainan and boost the country's travel industry.

The 2014 World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit will be held in Hainan, China, next April. And it's the second time that China hosts the global summit in just four years.

Industry analysts say the hosting of the summit itself underlines the rising significance of tourism in China as the second largest economy of the world.

And Chinese industry people regard the upcoming summit as an opportunity to enhance cooperation between China and other countries.

It is estimated that the number of Chinese outbound tourists will reach 100 million by 2015.

China is also expected to be the most attractive tourism destination and the fourth largest source of outbound tourism in the world by the end of 2015.

In 2012, China became the third largest inbound tourism destination, the largest domestic tourism market and had the highest rate of consumption in the world.

In the Hainan Island alone, overnight visitors increased from 22.5 million in 2009 to 33.2 million in 2012, a 13.8 percent increase...

While revenue from tourism in the province rose from 3.5 billion dollars in 2009 to 6.2 billion dollars in 2012, an increase of 21.4 percent.

The province has received 25.31 million visits during the first three quarters this year, with total revenue reaching 4.4 billion dollars.
