JAKARTA, Aug. 23 (APD) – China’s Alibaba founder and CEO, Jack Ma, has accepted Indonesia’s offer to become the adviser of national steering committee to develop the nation’s e-commerce road map, an Indonesian minister said.

“Jack Ma has agreed it. He would come with sincere mind, not to represent firms but to help developing Indonesian ecosystem so as to make SMEs, sub urban society and people in rural areas get the economy benefits by using digital technology,”

Indonesia Communications and Informatics Minister Rudyantara said in a statement released on Wednesday.

Rudyantara’s confirmation over Jakc Ma’s acceptance to Indonesian offer was made after the meeting of the two in Beijing on Tuesday.

Indonesia’s offer for Jack Ma was initially conveyed last year. Ma said at that time that developing a comprehensive logistic network in Indonesia is a quite a big challenge faced by e-commerce industry.

Ma added that to make it done, related stakeholders should be able to settle lingering problems in information system and logistics network.

Jack Ma operates e-commerce business in Indonesia after he acquired prominent online shopping firm Lazada. He also recently invested 1 billion U.S. Dollars for Indonesian online shopping company Tokopedia.

Indonesia’s steering committee to develop e-commerce in Indonesia is now led by Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution.

Indonesian government has great eagerness in developing e-commerce to expand its SMEs sector, has issued legal basis to support the development.

Southeast Asia’s largest economy has set a target to see e-commerce business in the country to reach 130 billion U.S. Dollars by 2020, which was doubted by analyst due various unsettled hindrances in the business.
