A couple from the southwest of England have become the oldest newlyweds in Britain, according to media reports.

Joan Grant, 81, and Ted Wright, 90, were married on Friday at Swindon Register Office in a civil ceremony attended by 20 guests, the reports said.

They walked to the registry office to Frank Sinatra's “The Second Time Around.”

The couple planned a week's honeymoon at a hotel with some of their friends from a retirement group.

For the ceremony, Wright wore a dark blue suit while Ms Grant wore a dark purple dress, a black jacket and a feather fascinator with a bouquet of flowers in her hand.

The couple once worked at the same company.

They had been widowed until they met each other around 15 years ago on holiday. However, Wright said that they never thought they would marry again and will cherish their time together.

“We really love each other and we are so happy,” The Independent quoted him as saying.
