Sri Lanka resolves to further deepen relations with China

COLOMBO, March 26 (APD) -- Sri Lanka has resolved to further deepen relations with China, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said on Monday.

President Maithripala Sirisena, in a message to Chinese President Xi Jinping, said that relations between Sri Lanka and China have documented historical legacy and both countries have been able to consolidate and strengthen those ensuring tangible benefits to the people in both Nations.

“It is my firm belief that our collective resolves to further deepen our relations at all spheres will continue under your esteemed leadership,” the Chinese Embassy quoted President Sirisena as saying.

“Please accept Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration for your Excellency and the people of China, and my personal good wishes for your health and happiness," he added.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, and Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana had also sent congratulatory messages earlier to Li Keqiang the Primer of State Council, Li Zhanshu the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’sCongress, Wang Yang the Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Wang Yi State Councillor and Foreign Minister for their election.
