Indian government, last week decided that they would be inviting Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit that will be held in New Delhi later this year.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, “All 8 countries and 4 observers of SCO will be invited,” meaning that Pakistan would be invited as well.

This marks a change from India’s previous posture, when New Delhi said, talks with Pakistan would only take place if, the country curbs terrorism which has affected India in the past.

SCO was founded in June 2001. The five original members of SCO are China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

The last SCO submit was held from November 1 to 2, 2019 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

SCO has eight member states, four observer states, six dialogue partners, and four guest attendances. The official languages of the organization are Chinese and Russian.
