International Apparel Federation opens its regional office in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 28 (APD) – The International Apparel Federation (IAF) has opened its first regional office in Pakistan’s eastern industrial city of Sialkot, a statement said on Thursday.

The office of the Netherland-based federation was inaugurated at the premises of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) by President IAF Han Bekke.

On the occasion, Bekke assured Pakistani exporters of making all-out efforts to develop strong business-to-business contacts between Pakistani and European exporters and importers attached with the textile and garments industry.

Sialkot is one of the top export hub of Pakistan dotted with cottage industry producing garments, uniforms, surgical instruments, sports goods and musical instruments etc.

“Sialkot is sourcing for top international renowned brands and our artisan and craftsmanship are acclaimed throughout the world,” said Ijaz A. Khokhar, Central Chairman of PRMGEA.

Khokhar hoped that opening of the IAF’s regional office in Pakistan would be very positive development in the textile industry of the country.

On the occasion, the Dutch National Fashion and Textile Association Netherlands (MODINT), for the first time in Asia, signed an agreement with PRGMEA House with a view to supporting Pakistan’s apparel industry.

The MODINT is the largest importers association of home textile, garments and textile.

According to the agreement, the MODINT would pursue the goal of promoting cooperation between Pakistan and Dutch apparel companies to realize the common development of both industries in both countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Haji Akram Ansari, Pakistan’s State Minister for Commerce and Textile, said the government had focused its attention on the promotion of export and taking steps for resolving the problems being faced by the business community.
