Germany's Peter Gojowczyk punched his ticket to the Delray Beach ATP final with a 7-6 (7/3), 6-3 victory over American Steve Johnson on Saturday.

Gojowczyk, ranked 64th in the world and chasing his second ATP title, will face either American Frances Tiafoe or Canadian Denis Shapovalov for the title on Sunday.

Gojowczyk notched his third straight win over an American, having dispatched sixth-seeded John Isner in the second round and wildcard Reilly Opelka in the quarter-finals.

Against Johnson, the German saved the only break point he faced.

"I thought he played exceptional tennis. A couple points I'd love to have change, but he came up with good stuff when he needed to come up with good stuff," Johnson said.

Tiafoe's day started early as he returned to finish off eighth-seeded South Korean Chung Hyeon 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 in a match halted by rain the night before.

"The stress level was pretty high today," said Tiafoe, who was up 5-3 in the third set when play was halted.

He said he was pleased that his semi-final clash with Shapovalov would follow on the same day, so he wouldn't "have much time to really get a big head or anything."
