United Nation (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres Saturday met the Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) in New York and discussed the ongoing tension on the Korean Peninsula.

According to the UN statement, Guterres called for de-escalation and full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions.

During the meeting, Guterres also stressed finding a political solution to the issue.

DPRK Minister of Foreign Affairs Ri Yong Ho was in attendance at the 72nd session of UN General assembly in New York.

In his Saturday speech to the assembly, he slammed US President Donald Trump's remarks on the DPRK, calling it an “irreversible mistake” and that it will make “rockets' visit to the entire US mainland inevitable”.

Hours before his speech, US bombers and jet fighters flew over waters east of the DPRK in a show of force.
