Indonesian police on Wednesday (Nov 30) said it foiled a major terror attack that was planned for the end of the year, local news outlet Detik reported.

At a news conference at police headquarters in Jakarta, national police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar reportedly said the terror cell based in Majalengka, West Java, planned to set up a methamphetamine lab - and use proceeds from the sale of drugs to fund their terrorist activities.

But this plan later changed, the spokesman said according to Detik.Nonetheless, Boy added, the group used the lab to make explosives, which going by the items seized, would have made for powerful bombs.

The terror cell consisted of four people:Rio Priatna Wibawa, 23; Bahrain Agam, 36; Saiful Bahri, 30; and Hendra Rizki, 24.

"This group is certainly different from the suspected terrorists who infiltrated the Nov 4 protests in Jakarta," Detik reported Boy as saying.

One of the four men, Rio,was nabbed on Fridayfor plotting attacks on government buildings and the Myanmar Embassy.

Local media had reported then that the amount of explosives seized would have resulted in a blast twice as powerful as the bomb that killed 202 people in a Bali nightclub in 2002.
