Germany father stabs 3 children with knife in family tragedy

A tragic family drama has taken place in the German town of Altenfeld, where a father has stabbed three children, German news website FOCUS Online reported Thursday.

Two children, aged one and four years, have died with severe stab wounds, the report said. Altenfeld is a small town in central German state of Thuringia.

The seriously-injured third child, aged 3, has been flown to a hospital, German police confirmed to FOCUS Online.

The 27-year-old father, who is suspected to have injured himself with the knife, is also being treated in a hospital and, according to German police, is the alleged perpetrator.

The children were found by their mother after returning to her flat from the hospital. German radio MDR reports that neighbors said that she was already beaten last week by the man.

German police say that the exact circumstances as well as the motive and reason of the crime are yet unclear.
