Myanmar's newly-elected region, state parliament begin first sessions

Myanmar's newly-elected region or state parliament on Monday began their first sessions separately in respective regions and states in Myanmar, which also took place simultaneously with the union parliament.

The summon for the first sessions of the new region or state parliament came nearly three months after the end of the general election on Nov. 8, 2015, in which the National League for Democracy (NLD), led by Aung San Suu Kyi, won the absolute majority of the parliamentary seats.

Attending the first parliament session of Yangon region, chaired by Daw Moe Moe Su Kyi of NLD, were a total of 122 members of the parliament.

During the session, the parliament elect U Tin Maung Tun from NLD as speaker and U Lin Naing Myint from NLD as deputy speaker of the Yangon Region Parliament. Enditem
