The Two Sessions, the major event of the Chinese political calendar, opened in Beijing on March 4.

The event encompasses the meetings of China's top two political bodies, the legislative National People's Congress (NPC) and the advisory Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Together the events provide guidance on how the Chinese leadership considers the year just gone and its plans for the next 12 months.
