A group of House Republicans has written to Speaker Nancy Pelosi asking her to lift the chamber's mask guidance following the updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations.

"We urge you to immediately return to normal voting procedures and end mandatory mask requirements in the House of Representatives," the letter signed by 34 GOP lawmakers read in part.

"The United States Congress must serve as a model to show the country we can resume normal life through vaccination. Let's follow the science and get back to work," the letter continues.

The CDC on Thursday eased indoor mask-wearing guidance for fully vaccinated people in the U.S., allowing them to safely stop wearing masks inside in most places, according to a person briefed on the announcement.

Pelosi however said the requirement on mask wearing inside the House will remain until all members are vaccinated.
