Explosions in Thaiyuan

At least one person has been killed and and eight others injured after explosions occurred on Wednesday morning in Taiyuan, capital of north China' Shanxi Province.

According to local police, the blasts took place in front of the office building of the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

Among the eight injured, one was seriously wounded.

A witness said a loud bang was heard and heavy smoke and flames could be seen in the area.

The incident is believed to have been caused by home-made bombs as steel beads were scattered across the scene.

The area around the explosion has been cordoned off.

Police are investigating.
