China's consumer and factory-gate inflation eased to 2.1 percent and 3.1 percent respectively in March, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday.

The consumer price index (CPI) rose 2.1 percent on year in March, down 0.8 percentage points from 2.9 percent in February.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI dropped 1.1 percent in March, as the influence of the Chinese New Year on consumer prices has faded away.

The producer price index (PPI), which measures costs for goods at the factory gate, rose 3.1 percent year-on-year in March, slowing to a 17-month low, as the price growth pace for steel, oil, coal, non-ferrous metals and chemicals have slowed.

The intensifying trade dispute between China and the US triggers concerns over higher inflation in the coming months.
