China's commerce ministry protested against trade protectionism on Thursday after reports of a failed deal by Chinese tech company Huawei to sell its phones in the US.

Gao Feng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, said at a press conference that China is against trade protectionism in any form, and that he hopes the United States meets China halfway to promote healthy and stable Sino-US economic ties.

News reports surfaced earlier this week that AT&T had backed out of a deal with Huawei to sell its flagship Mate 10 Pro smartphones in the US.
