At least 17 people were killed and over 20 others injured when a passenger bus collided with a truck in Pakistan's south Sukkur district on Tuesday morning, local media reported.

Urdu TV channel Samaa said that the ill-fated bus with over 80 people onboard hit into the truck coming from opposite direction near Theri bypass of Sukkur, the third largest district in the country's south Sindh province.

The bus was on its way to the country's southern port city of Karachi from northwest Swat district when the accident occurred.

Police said that apparently the accident happened due to the bus driver's negligence as he lost control over the vehicle due to over speeding.

The injured people have been shifted to a nearby hospital where the doctors said that the death toll is feared to rise as 15 among the wounded passengers are in critical condition. Enditem
